I signed up my 11 year old tonight! What do I need to do next?! Wait for a call? Is "skill assessment" still 1/24/09? Will this blog be the "go to" place for current info or edmondlacrosse.com ?
I've got more questions if you need them!
Hi Steve,
Welcome to Edmond Lacrosse! I would check both the blog and www.edmondlacrosse.com for information. Sometimes it is quicker for volunteers to update the blog and other times our volunteer webmaster is able to update the website fairly quickly. Once Edmond Parks & Recreation finalizes the skills assessment times for each age group we will post them at the blog or website. Yes, it is still scheduled for Jan 24.
You need to provide a birth certificate and US Lacrosse # to Edmond Parks & Recreation. Have you signed your son up at www.uslacrosse.org? I would recommend purchasing his equipment now also. Depending on your son's size I noticed some youth x-small and small helmets at Academy for $25 which is a screaming deal (normally about $100) Local sources are Howard Sports and Academy. You can also purchase items online. My husband likes www.laxworld.com but there are many reputable online vendors with competitive prices. www.edmondlacrosse.com has a list of equipment you need to purchase.
I hope this helps. Please call or e-mail with questions. Cheryl Prebula
Cheryl ~ Thanks! I'll check them out upon my return to OKC after Christmas. Does he have to have equipment before the skills assessment? It'll be weird buying it before he's even ever been in a practice. Will teammates have different helmets or sticks? Should I wait to buy before getting in contact with his coach?
Steve, All players participating in the Skills Assessment must be wearing appropriate safety equipment. Helmets should be white. Teams/coaches won't be assigned until the Feb 6 Information meeting. If players don't participate in the Skills Assessment they still must have all equipment for practices which begin sometime after the Feb 6 Information meeting. If you have specific questions about the equipment after you go look, call me at the number at the top of the blog and my husband can advise. Every player has different sticks, pads, etc. so it doesn't matter which ones you buy...strictly a matter of budget and personal preference.
